Harmoni Lodge #472 was organized on November 29, 1925, the 472nd local lodge of the Vasa Order of America, which itself had been organized only 29 years earlier. We were at the time one of several Vasa lodges in the Portland area, tending to the social, cultural, and wellbeing needs primarily of recent Swedish immigrants. At first, meetings were conducted in Swedish; this continued until 1954, when English officially became the primary language. Throughout these hundred years, Harmoni has made it a point to participate actively in Scandinavian and Swedish-focused events in and around Portland, to look after one another, and to support through charitable giving other organizations that serve to preserve and promote Swedish culture in our region. We welcome as members all persons who have an interest in Swedish and Scandinavian culture and who share these goals.
